Satyameva Jayate (2018) Synopsis
- The safety of Mumbai city has been assigned to a police department with roughly 200,000 officers, the majority of whom are corrupt. When four such police inspectors are burnt alive in a series of merciless killings, the entire police force is rocked with terror. The media is looking for answers. The public is on the fence over these killings. The killer has left the ashes of the dead policemen outside the police stations and given an open challenge to the police force. These crimes are conducted by Veer (Virendra Rathore) (John Abraham), a bold, calculating, and unapologetic vigilante. The 2nd cop he killed had accepted a bribe of Rs 20 Lakhs to let go of a rich kid who killed a poor pedestrian on the streets with reckless driving.Fearing the next attack, the Commissioner (Manish Choudhary) calls upon DCP Shivansh (Manoj Bajpayee), their best bet to catch Veer. Shivansh launches his investigation. Sarita (Amruta Khanvilkar) is Shivansh’s wife. Veer calls Shivansh on a secure connection with a voice scrambler and tells him that he is only killing corrupt officers. Shivansh says that only law can punish the corrupt and vigilantes have no place in the justice system.Shivansh deduces that Veer is a soldier & is fighting for the truth and justice. As he tracks Veer, he witnesses firsthand the police brutality and corruption that Veer is fighting against. The 3rd cop Veer kills had taken a Rs 50 Lakhs bribe to allow a late-night bar and restaurant to operate illegally. Using the first letters of the locations where the 3 murders were conducted (SAT), Shivansh figures out that the killer is trying to spell “Satyamev Jayate”.Veer meets Shikha (Aisha Sharma) a fellow activist & a veterinarian. Veer takes an abandoned puppy to her, but she tells him that death would be a better outcome for it. They start dating.Shivansh zeros in on the next cop who lives in a place, starting with the letter Y. Shivansh bugs the police station at Yari Road and finds that the corrupt cop Bhosale (Rajesh Khera) is torturing an innocent man to confess a crime for the sake of a promotion. Bhosale resorts in inhuman beating to achieve his aim. Veer enters the station as a cop and enters the lockup where Bhosale is torturing the man. Veer proceeds to mercilessly beat Bhosale and setting him on fire. The man refuses to say that he saw Bhosale’s killer.It is revealed that Veer is Shivansh’s younger brother, but Shivansh has no clue that his brother is the cop killer.
